Foundation and Basement Excavation

Foundation and Basement Excavation in Bozeman

The foundation dig sets the elevation everything else builds from, so Pmcsmith excavates footings, crawl spaces, and full basements to exact plan depth and dimension. We over-dig for the forms, manage the spoil pile, and leave a level, compacted bearing surface ready for concrete. A basement cut near Willson Avenue comes out square and to grade so the forms drop in without rework.

Why Bearing Surface Matters

Concrete is only as stable as the ground under it. Dig too deep, backfill loosely, or leave a soft spot, and the footing can settle and crack. We excavate to the right depth, compact any structural fill to 95 percent, and hand a firm, level base to the foundation crew. In the rocky or wet soils common around the Gallatin Valley, that groundwork is what keeps a slab flat for decades.

Our Process

After the 811 locate and layout, we excavate to plan depth with the spoil stockpiled for later backfill. Where a high water table shows up, we plan for dewatering, and where soil is poor we import engineered fill placed in lifts. Then we compact the bearing surface and check grade before the forms arrive off Durston Road or wherever the site sits.
